2020 Singer Programs Update
Although it was impossible to hold our annual auditions this year, the Society has made donations in recent months, from our endowed and special contributor funds, to a number of our highly promising awardees and grantees, as their upcoming bookings and plans were canceled due to the abrupt cutoff of live events. We thank our generous members and hope to continue this assistance, and to schedule a recital (possibly live) with an outstanding awardee. Three of our rising tenors were featured in the masterclass with Stephen Gould.
About WSNY Singers Awards
Wagner Society of New York is committed to providing our members with the most rewarding experiences and opportunities relating to the appreciation of the music of Richar Wagner. We are equally dedicated to supporting promising young Wagnerian singers.
The awards are funded by Society members who established the Robert Lauch Memorial Endowed Fund and the Ursula Springer Endowed Fund, with additional Encouragement and Study grants supported by member contributions.
Auditions are by invitation only and are conducted annually.
Scott Carlton, Artistic Director of Singers Programs and New York City-based voice teacher, coach and member of the Bayreuth Festival Chorus from 2003-2013, chairs the adjudicating panel, which, in 2017 also consisted of Ken Benson, voice consultant and manager; Cori Ellison, Glyndebourne Festival dramaturg and Juilliard School faculty member; and conductor Eve Queler.
Special Contributor Memberships
Contributions of $150 and above provide additional funds to assist promising Wagner singers or other Society activity. The Society acknowledges Special Contributors in its newsletter and holds an annual exclusive event in appreciation.
